5am my alarm goes off
I think I slept well but…
It all comes back to me
First the bad things
Then reaching for the good
Nalgene full of coffee
Avocado in my pocket
Headlamp and sunglasses
Keys and $20 bill
Windbreaker
Out the front door

5am my alarm goes off
I think I slept well but…
It all comes back to me
First the bad things
Then reaching for the good

Nalgene full of coffee
Avocado in my pocket
Headlamp and sunglasses
Keys and $20 bill
Windbreaker

Out the front door
To some road intersection
To meet some guy I met last week
To carpool to some trailhead
To escape somewhere quieter

Leaning further and further
Into the whims of the universe
Eddies of meaningless coincidence
A dog vying for a table scrap
Naively high fiveing thin air

Why can I only write while walking, face down in my phone, the stereotype of a millennial?
Why did I make so much coffee when my heart is already beating so fast?
Why isn’t everyone this restless?

I don’t know.
